BED THREE

4 March 2016

first sowings marked out but none survived!

4 May 2016 - potatoes in seven weeks late.  Does that matter?

3 June 2016 - fennel expanding and courgette just planted

fennel tastes lovely - like aniseed

21 June 2016 - the potato plants are trying to escape

The red orach looks very bright when the sun shines through the leaves

19 July 2016
Miss Savages' class harvest the potatoes.  There were red skinned Rudolph and white skinned Rocket varieties.  The children took it in turns to cut back the foliage and dig to find the treasure..

In the woods the bounty was counted and in all there were 71 potatoes!

The plan now is to cook potato wedges on Thursday just before breaking up for the summer holidays.

I didn't know what was in the beds to start with - in December they were all covered with weeds but this dahlia survived my digging and sprouted up fill of life this year with perfect maroon flowers.
